“Give to Get” – the Key to Prosperity.

The name of the game we are playing is called “Free Enterprise”.  If you are playing the game correctly, the more enterprising you are, the more free you are.  It is the best game around; perfect for rhinoceroses!  There is only one rule – You have to give, to get.

What you reap, you sow.  Simple rule.  The game is easy to understand and everybody can be a winner.  How come everybody isn’t a winner then?  Why are there so many losers?  I guess they have never looked up the rule.  Too many cows are trying to go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands. Of course, the government encourages people to take and penalizes those who produce and give.  My God, we could be such a great country if we had politicians and a population that understood this simple truth!

The more energy you put into something, the more you are going to get out of it.  This applies to every facet of your life from making friends to making money; from running a business to running a family.  Stop giving and you will stop getting.  Your life is like a river.  Keep the water flowing and you will be refreshed, life-giving, clear and beautiful.  Dam it up and you will stagnate.

Give, knowing that you will receive back ten times as much.  That is the way it works!  The farmer plants a cup of corn and he reaps a bushel.  That’s a good deal, isn’t it?  Give, and you will get the same markup!  Keep charging!!!   Scott Alexander

Hunting Success.

Somewhere, deep in the jungle where few dare venture, there lives a wild animal called “success”.  It is rare and much sought after, but only a few ever risk tracking it down to capture it.  The hunt is long, hard and risky.   There are many hardships along the way that will tear at your heart and soul.  The jungle brush throws up an almost impenetrable barrier.  Bugs constantly bite and bore into your skin.  Poisonous snakes, crocodiles and other dangerous animals present very real dangers to your safety.  The incessant, burning sun is your constant companion until nightfall; when the temperature drops to near freezing and you long for the burning sun again against your already reddened, blistered skin.

At times you feel weak, dizzy from exhaustion.  Success seems at times, an imaginary creature, not capable of capture.  But you continue on, because you are too deep in the jungle now to head back without your prize.

Months go by, maybe years.  Still, not a sign of success.  It is a clever animal, rarely exposing itself, always quick to flee should it sense danger of being caught.  Success is so uncommon, so unique and so challenging: you must have it!  No other animal requires so much skill to hunt and capture.

As rare as the animal is, rarer are the men and women who set up their own safari in search of success.  You and I are part of that group who must have success.  The rewards are great.  We know that.  We also know that the hunt is difficult, at best.  We know the odds are against us.  We know many have failed and few will even attempt the expedition.

Success is not easy.  It is a truly difficult animal to capture, requiring lots of work, quick thinking, desire and persistence on the part of the hunter.  But, you and I are gonna capture it, and we are going to have a great adventure in the process.  Let’s go!  Right now is the season for success!!!   Keep charging!!   Scott Alexander.

Rhino Game – Wake the Zombie!!

As you drive about in your automobile, take notice of the other motorists.  How do they look?  Are they smiling?  Do they look excited?  You will quickly discover that our roads and highways are being traveled by a nation of zombies.  Most drivers maintain a fixed, glazed expression as they work their way through the traffic.  Eye contact is avoided at all costs.  Smiles are nonexistent.   The only indication of any life is that their car is moving.  Somebody has got to be pushing on the gas pedal.  It must be them!

At the next traffic light, pull up to the nearest zombie and stare at him or her.  Study his expressionless face.  What is he thinking about?  He looks as though he might be going to a funeral… his own!  Continue your observation.  It’s funny, but no how deep in shock  he might seem to be, once you start to stare,  he will sense it and look over at you to wonder what you are looking at.

Your tendency will be to look away as soon as he does.  This time, don’t.  Instead, smile or wave.  This will totally baffle him.  See what he does next.  Most drivers will flash back a quick, nervous smile and then stare straight ahead again, dying for the light to turn green.

Isn’t this a fun game?  If simply staring won’t wake a zombie out of his coma, beep your horn.  Then when he or she looks over, grin the biggest grin you can and wave like he is a good friend you haven’t seen in years.

Scoring goes:  Two Points for a return smile and a wave.   One point for just a return smile.  No points for merely breaking the coma and minus points for any accidents.  Have fun and keep charging!!    Scott Alexander

Even Rhinos get the Blues.

Do you think that just because you are a rhino, you are immune to the blues?  Nope.  In fact, rhinos may be more prone to the blues!  When you are out taking chances, there is a greater risk of disappointment.  You give your heart easily and it is a rhino-sized heart.  Sometimes it gets broken.  You chase dreams and sometimes it seems they are escaping.

Rhinos experience everything bigger, including the blues.  Don’t fret.  Blue is one of life’s colors.  You wouldn’t be as colorful of a character, if you didn’t have some shades of blue.  No need to be ashamed.  Instead, be proud!  The more living you do, the more disappointments you will encounter.  There are only five primary colors (yellow, red, black, white and blue), but in combination, you can create thousands of hues.  Use your blues!

It’s part of the adventure, like getting  “Montezuma’s Revenge of the Soul”.   You will get through it, but isolate yourself as you would if you had the flu.  You can confide in a close friend, but to expose others to your temporary blue attitude is not the Rhino way.  The blues can be contagious, especially if others are looking to you for leadership.

Revel in it, celebrate it, sleep it off, go for a run, watch a movie, read a book, plant something in the garden, change the oil in your car.  Do whatever helps you to “pass” it, and then get back in the jungle charging with a renewed vigor.  You know how you really appreciate feeling normal when a bad headache finally goes away.  When the blues go, you will value the opportunity to get out there and achieve more.  Your horn will have a sharper edge.

It’s a short emotional season that sometimes generates epiphanies, renewed determination and occasionally bouts of genius.  Take advantage of it, but make it a short season.  You are a rhinoceros!  You need to be out in the jungle charging!!

Let’s Ban Bureaucrats!

In 1967,  John Lennon wrote a song called “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” based on a drawing that his son, Julian, had done of a classmate named Lucy O’Donnell.  The song was interpreted to be about LSD by the BBC and promptly banned.  Of course, The Beatles were no strangers to being banned on the BBC.  A handful of their tunes were banned over the years.  “I am the Walrus” was banned because it contained the word “knickers”.

It seems funny now having a group of people set up in a position to decide what people would be allowed to hear or not.

Things may have gotten looser on the music scene, but today is no different with having groups of people who want the power to decide how we should live our lives.  Now we have people deciding what kind of light bulbs we are going to use, what kinds of food we are allowed to eat, what vitamins will be available for us, what kind of cars we will be allowed to own, and on and on.

My dream is that these bureaucrats of today are as repugnant to us in the future as the idea of the BBC banning songs is to us today.   Get radical!  Question authority.  Fight for limited government.  Pass the word and keep charging!!!   Scott Alexander

Is it over for you?

Wanna get motivated?  Provide yourself with a motive!  What do you want that is going to cause you to take action?  Nothing?   Then don’t worry about it.

You have apparently reached the top.  It’s over for you.  That is all she wrote.  The game is called because of lack of interest.

Being motivated is a state of reaching, of advancing and looking forward to achieving your next goal.  But it all revolves around that “motive”.  You gotta want something.  Motivational books won’t help unless you have a desire.

I can’t believe that you are done.  There must be something that you still want to do with your life!   Dreams are not being regulated by the government…yet.  You could do or become anything that excites you.  You might as well.  There is just nothing on television that is worth sacrificing your future for.

Get crazy!  The most powerful motivation is a wild desire.  Upsize your dream!  Get in the game and have fun!  Be a rhinoceros and charge!!!   Scott Alexander

Celebrate Difficulty!

I am a contrarian in the motivational business in that I believe that success is difficult.  Actually, it’s an acknowledgment rather than a belief.  If success was easy, it wouldn’t be success.  It would be mediocrity, because to be mediocre is easy.  You don’t have to do much to be good at it.    Don’t cheapen your achievements!  You’ve worked long and hard to get where you are.  Don’t be ashamed to say, “yeah, it was tough, but I hung in there, I persisted and I succeeded.”

Of course, I also acknowledge that having the right attitude is radically important.  The attitude to have is that the difficulty makes it adventurous!

Just because something is defined as “difficult” doesn’t mean that it is unpleasant.   A puzzle can be difficult – that’s what makes it fun!  Having a baby can be difficult – that’s what makes it a life changing experience!  A safari through the jungle can be difficult – that’s what makes it an exciting adventure!

You are trying to change the world – not show up for a job!  There are going to be challenges.  Everything is not always going to go as planned.  That’s why you need to keep the attitude that you are a rhino charging through the jungle.  There are poisonous snakes out there, torpedoes, quicksand, negative mother-in-laws.  It’s gonna take 2 inch thick skin, rhinoceros resolve and the ability to keep picking yourself up when knocked down to make it through this jungle.

If you’ve never experienced the hot sun of the jungle bearing down on you, you’ve never been in the jungle.   You won’t develop the 2 inch thick skin, unless you expose yourself to the biting insects and the elements.  And you won’t feel the breeze at the top of the mountain, unless you feel the climb on the way up.

Celebrate the difficulty!!!   Keep charging!!!    Scott Alexander

Rhinoceros Success Attitude.

A friend had posted on Facebook a picture of a sign that read “Warning. Protected by a Rhinoceros with Attitude!”   That got me to realizing  just how important attitudes are.

A Rhinoceros is nothing but attitude.  That’s how you become a Rhino – you change your thinking!  We don’t really weigh 6,000 pounds.  We don’t really have two-inch-thick skin.  We don’t really have horns.  It is all in your head.   We do have the attitude that we are going to succeed, despite the obstacles.  We all believe that life is an adventure and we want to be a part of it.

The exciting part is that anybody can change their attitude.  You might be a quiet, soft-spoken person, but you can still be a Rhino.  You don’t have to become a loud, extroverted party animal.  The Rhino attitude burns deep inside you.  Attitude is there for everyone regardless of personality or body type.

Changing an attitude can happen in an instant!  There is no “preheating of the oven” required.  Decide what attitude you want and it materializes instantly!

Have you ever gone into one of those yogurt places where you put whatever you want on your yogurt?  Attitudes are like that.  Pick who you want to be.  Decide how you will react when you get knocked down,  rejected or cut off in traffic.  Make yourself delightful!  No use in putting nasty stuff on your yogurt – you have to eat it.  No use in having lousy attitudes  either, because you are the one who has to live with them.

Have the Rhinoceros attitude.   Resolve to live with an air of expectancy, faith, love and excitement.  When things don’t work out, consider it part of the adventure.  Customize yourself with all your favorite attitudes and change your world.  Keep charging!!!   Scott Alexander
